Southern MD Snow Preperation

Southern MD is expecting 5 to 12 inches of snow tomorrow! Are you ready?

Check out these 3 simple and inexpensive tips for winterizing your home and preparing for snow. Even though it has already been cold it might be a good idea to double check. This is especially important in older and more rural homes in Calvert, Charles, and St.Mary’s counties.

#1 Check the furnace

Replace furnace filters once a month during the heating season to increase airflow.

#2 Reverse the fan

Reverse the direction of the ceiling fans, counter-clockwise, to push warm air downward and force it to recirculate, keeping you warmer.

#3 Wrap those pipes

To prevent frozen pipes, wrap exposed plumbing with pre-molded foam rubber sleeves. In warmer climates, you can install Styrofoam cups to help insulate outdoor spigots.

#4 Have a plan in place for snow removal

It can be hard to get a snow vendor out in Southern Maryland to clear your driveway and roads. Contact a vendor in advance and make sure to follow up before the storm to ensure fast removal. We can help at Real Property Management Gold.

#5 Be prepared for a power outage.

Ensure your home has a plan or kit to prepare for a long power outage. In Southern Maryland especially in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates long power outages are common during any kind of hazardous weather. If you have a generator ensure you have plenty of fuel and that the generator is operational in a well ventilated area at the beginning of the season.

#6 Ensure you have up to a weeks worth of food and supplies on-hand.
